Many of you have been asking about/leaving really kind comments about Skyler (who currently has lymphoma). I really appreciate all your support and am so thankful for all your wonderful messages! I have tried to reply to all comments but sometimes you guys are so nice that there are literally hundreds of comments and I can't get to all of them because they get buried. At this point we are 9 weeks from diagnosis, and while we are seeing recent signs that she is slowing down a little, Skyler is still eating voraciously, barking, and happy. I am super grateful to have this time to say my goodbyes to her while she is still feeling good, especially since the vet said it was unlikely she would make it this long. I've been giving her several supplements which I think are helping a great deal, too long and potentially boring to talk about here but if you are interested in knowing, feel free to DM me! ❤️

Sadly the news about Skyler has been bad, and it looks like we will only have a few more months together. I am devastated. Part of my sadness and frankly anger lies in the fact I expected we would have more time together (she is only 10!) I expected that all the attention I put into her diet and care would enable her to be healthier and live longer. And though this is self-centered in nature, when we were both younger and I thought of the future when she would be an older dog, I expected to be a totally functional adult who had hit many more adulthood 'milestones' than I currently have. I'm not at a place I want to be in life right now, and though this has nothing to do with Skyler, the end of my time with her is bringing up agonizing feelings related to my age and accomplishments. The other day I spoke with my best friend, two years ago she made the incredibly brave decision to enter drug/alcohol rehab which included moving to a far away city where she didn't know a soul, and she has maintained sobriety ever since, and she offered me some great advice (she always does!): so often in life, our expectations only serve to add to our disappointment and prevent us from seeing the positives or even the reality of life. I'm trying to forget everything I expected in the past and focus on what really matters: Skyler lived a great doggie life, and she will be happy and spoiled for the rest of her time here, I'm very fortunate to have the time and financial resources to be there for whatever she needs, and am so, so lucky to have been able to care for such a wonderful dog for 10 years.
