#WHPperfectpair Paper and dreams – this is, in my personal universe, the perfect pair! I know I have mentioned this several times during my “1000 cranes in 1000 days” project, but paper has helped me save my life more times than I can recall! In the case of today’s crane, repetition was my music: drawing and then cutting out each “feather”, carefully giving a name to each one while marking it with lines, each line holding in itself my most hidden thoughts, hopes and worries. Paper wings weighed down by me, but still able to fly. Here is my perfect pair! My perfect paradox. #origami #icarusmidair #paperart #papercutting #inktober2017 #kuretakeinktober2017 #blackandwhite

#998 “wabi-sabi” crane #WHPdynamic Song of the day: St Jude by Florence + The Machine @florence If you remember, I used a bouquet of flowers from around the yard to accompany crane #995. I hung the rose from the ceiling for it to dry easier, and the other flowers were left scattered on the edge of my desk. Today’s crane carries these flowers on its wings. Along this 1000 days journey, I tried again and again to reveal the beauty I found in everyday things, in things that are not particularly beautiful or seemingly ordinary. My love for wilted and dried flowers finds its roots in this pursuit! Despite the rain, today also feels light and airy. It’s a peculiar feeling of weightlessness: should I jump up, I feel I would not fall back down. x #origami #icarusmidair #floral #flowers #rose #wings #wing #florenceandthemachine #icarus #levitate #levitation #float #floating #petals #wabisabi

“Anann” crane Song of the day: Die trying by Michl @thisismichl I am afraid that the circumstances that triggered my desire to start a daily project almost 3 years ago are paying me a visit as of late. I am losing track of the passing of time, I don’t feel like doing much throughout the day and, what I find saddest of all, my sense of wonder is numbing down. Despite this however, spontaneity has become much more precious. Take today for example: I had no intention of sharing a new crane, but a few hours ago I just started folding and cutting and gluing. It feels good to share something new with you! Thank you @excelblades for my new cutting “toys”. I have new air under my wings! #origami #icarusmidair #papercutting #papercut #skeleton #bones #wings #etsyforyou

#994 “aesthetic of the broken” crane Song of the day: Tm by Nosaj Thing @nosajthing I am bracing myself for a few tumultuous days ahead as I will try to come to terms with the conclusion of this step of my project. One of the most elusive things for me has been closure. I find it impossible to irreversibly step away from something, be it people or experiences, or even places. Not so much things though, I have no problem leaving stuff behind. I started ‘icarus.mid.air’ with the burning hope for healing and closure. More of one and probably less of the other. As a dear friend of mine said about my cranes: “beauty is not their purpose, their purpose is to heal”. Some of the scars have healed, and the others have become things of beauty. Because I have learned to look for beauty in the unlikeliest of places. x #origami #icarusmidair #paper #papercutting #papercraft #mixedmedia

#989 “care for you” crane Song of the day: The Gate by Björk @bjork When I go out for walks, there is a very high likelihood that I will return with a bunch of flowers or leaves or random plants. I unconscientiously trained my brain to be on the lookout for peculiar beauty. The pressed plants that adorn the wings of today’s crane are plants which I picked up on two of such walks. The crane now smells like the family picnics we used to go on almost yearly in May, in the mountains. The mint flowers infuse it and reminds me of a steaming cup of mint tea with lemon and honey in January. September will continue to be my heart’s season though. Even now, sitting at my desk and typing this, I feel my being flooded with joy and serenity. I am sending this mood to all of you. Have a lovely end of the week! x #origami #icarusmidair #paperart #papiroflexia #delicate #theweekonintagram #wings #wing #origamicrane #abstract #leaves #leaf #pressedflowers #pressedplants #floral #feather #feathers #mixedmedia # #bjork
